Abigail
by Taelon Cleopatra

I never knew my mother. Da'an tells me she died giving birth to me, her body unable to
take the physical strain that came with bearing a hybrid child. When Da'an realized that
she would not survived, he used a portal to transport me out of her dying body, killing
my mother instantly. Not surprisingly, I have never been too fond of portals.
It's strange knowing that your father killed your mother, but I know that Da'an had no
choice. He could not let the first known human-taelon die just for the sake of one
insignificant human. However, I know that he was hurt greatly by what happened. Da'an
never exactly loved my mother, but he did care for her greatly. It was she who finally
made him see the futility of his tyrannical ways and guided him back to the orignal
Mothership protocols.
Da'an raised me himself, but it wasn't easy. I had to be hidden from the other Taelons,
not because I was a hybrid, but that Da'an had to naturally join with a human to create
me. The Synod, if it learned of this, would surely find the mere thought of this
repugnant. Da'an would be disgraced and possibly even exiled. So it was that I spent the
first 11 years of my life in a tiny room just next the mothership's interdimensional drive
unit where few Taelons ever go unless a repair is needed. I rarely ever saw another
Taelon besides Da'an, and this for only an hour each day. I certainly didn't see a human
until-

"Hey, Abby! What are you working on?"
Abigail King looked up into the green eyes of her friend and fellow hybrid, Liam Kincaid.
"Da'an has been suggesting to me that I start the human practice of writing down my
memories and thoughts in what I believe is called a journal."
"With real paper? And a pen? Those objects haven't been used in the last 5 years, not
since the Taelons introduced datapads."
"I was afraid of someone being able to download my work. Besides, I kind of like writing
this way, it makes me feel...freer, sort of."
"Well then, I guess I better let you get back to it. Sandoval wants me on the mothership
in half an hour."
"Have fun", Abigail said sarcastically as her tall friend left the Da'an's audience chamber.
Then she went back to writing.

As I was saying, I never saw another human being until I was eleven Earth years old, on a day I will never forget, the one in which my life truly began.

Da'an smiled at the joyful expression on his child's face as she gazed out the viewport window. He had been right to bring her to his personal chambers, despite the dangers involved. Abigail had simply spent far too much time hidden in her little room. However, things would change once they reached Earth. As a member of the diplomatic caste, Da'an would almost certainly be given an on-planet asignment. He and Abigail would be able to live, for the most part, away from the other Taelons, and would have more time to spend together. His daughter would have a whole series of rooms to explore and possibly a few human companions as well.
"Da'an look, we're coming out of interdimensional drive!"
The Taelon turned his head to see the beautiufl, vivid colors of hyperspace had been replaced by the image of a lovely blue and green world. He gasped at the sight, for the planet was the mirror image of his homeworld destroyed so long ago by the Jaridians. Everything about it, from the magnificent oceans to the enormous desert in the western hemisphere, brought back memories from his youth, memories of happier times when life was not so desperate. Ma'el had been right. This was indeed the place where the future of Taelon civilization lay!
Da'an was not the only one who found Earth to be strangely familiar. Abigial had been standing in front of the virtual glass for hours, awaiting the appearance of her mother's homeworld with a mixture of anticipation and dread. While she was very excited about the freedom Earth offered for her, she was also nervous about meeting other members of the human race. Her mixed blood, whille it would forever isolate her from the other members of the Taelon race, also made her superior to the humans in both intellect and physical strength. What if they were simply too primitive for her to relate to?
At that moment, the endless colors of interdimensional space seemed to fold back on themselves and Abigial saw the Earth for the first time. All of her fears and worries vanished as she stared at the beautiful world before her. She knew this place, for it was where she had been born and raised. Memories of her family and the happy times they had had together flashed before her eyes. In one, she walked and chatted with a group of giggling girls, in another she sat at her parents' funeral, holding her brother tightly as they both wept. These were her memories, and yet, at the same time, they belonged to someone else. Abigail was now Angela King, a young girl who had been taken from Earth long ago and held captive by a mysterious alien race. Now, Angela was dead, but she saw her homeworld once again through her daughter's eyes.
Then, something even more miraculous happened. The viewscreen came on with the image of a middle-aged human male. Although, his hair was silver, not orange, and he lacked a V in his forehead, he seemed to resemble Abigail in a way no Taelon ever had. The man, who she later learned was President Thompson, began to greet the Taelons in a language she recognized as English. Both mother and daughter, rejoiced at the sound and sight of another human being. "I'm home", they whispered together in one voice.
Da'an caught his daughter as she fell.

I plan on adding on more at least by tomorrow. I hope I haven't confused you too much with the mother/daughter stuff. I beleive it was mentioned in one episode that Taelons inherit the memories of their parents.

From Da'an i learned several Taelon meditation techniques that helped keep my memoriese in check. However, the incident with my mother's past would traumatize me for years to come. Despite Da'an's assurances that I am the best of both worlds, I will never be able to forget my limted abilities. Any Taelon child of two can easily distinguish a parents' memory from its own!

However, my fears were briefly alleviated by our arrival on Earth. For the first time in my life, I had more than twelve feet of space to live in and a garden right outside. You have no idea what it's like to feel the grass under your feet and see the sky over head after a lifetime in spafce. Earth, to me, was a paradise, and I began to think being half-human might not be so bad after all.
Then, there came a day when I realized the Taelon presence on Earth was causing serious harm to my mother's people. I learned it the first time I looked into the cold, dead eyes of my parent's protector, Ronald Sandoval.
