This part takes place shortly after Limbo.
Da'an sighed softly as he laid his head against the back of his chair. The last few days had been overwhelming to say the least with the loss of the core energy canister, the discovery of the resurrected Jonathan Doors, and the destruction of the core energy by his son. However, these events seemed to pale in comparison with the Taelon's own, personal tragedy. T'than his comrade and former lover was dead.
Over the years, T'than and Da'an's relationship had changed. The raging passions of their youth had been replaced by the mutual admiration and respect characteristic of colleagues. Only one thing remained to remain Da'an of their brief affair,Zo'or.
T'than had never known of his child. After his capture and torture by Jaridian forces, the War Minister was never the same again. He became a bitter, angry, and determined Taelon capable of great atrocities toward the lesser races. There was also the risk that word would get out about Zo'or's true parentage. Both T'than and Da'an would surely lose their Synod positions for having commited the Taelon equivalent of adultery.
However, as time passed and the animosity between Zo'or and T'than became evident, Da'an began to regret his decision. In fact, there had been several occasions when he had nearly told T'than, most recently during the p'raj'rath challenge. However, something had always held him back.
And now it was too late, Zo'or had killed T'than in a bitter rage. And yet, Da'an wondered if anything would have changed if Zo'or had been told the truth. After all, the Synod Leader had already tried to kill Da'an on several occasions.
But, the Taelon knew he was merely fooling himself. He had seen the anger in Abigail's eyes. She knew of Zo'or's true parentage through the memories she had inherited from Da'an. "Zo'or had committed the most unspeakable of crimes, but it is not entirely his own fault," she had said. "It could have all been prevented if you had only told the truth."
Da'an thoughts turned to Zo'or on the Mothership's bridge, fuming most likely over the loss of energy. "If only you knew, my child, he whispered, if only you knew."
